When connecting to your office computer with NinjaRemote, there are some additional steps we recommendnd you take to ensure privacy and security while you work.

⚠️ The following steps are saved locally on the computer you are connecting from. If you get a new home/personal computer or are using multiple devices to connect (i.e. desktop and laptop), you must make these changes on each device you are connecting from.

Enable Screen Blanking during your remote connection

By default when you connect to your office computer, anyone physically present at the desk will be able to see what you are doing. To address this, you can enable screen blanking by taking the following steps:

  1. Connect to your office PC.

  2. From the menu strip at the top of the remote connection screen, click the ⚙️ Settings icon, then click Additional Settings:

  3. In the window that pops up, click the Display tab and make sure Show black screen is checked off and then click Close:

Now when you connect to your office workstation, the screens (physically connected to the workstation) will black out, preventing anyone from overseeing you.

Enable automatic lock/logoff on session close

When you disconnect from your remote session, your computer will stay open and unlocked until the default inactivity lock timeout (normally 30 minutes) unless you manually lock or log out of the computer before disconnecting. If you would like to configure your computer to automatically lock or logoff when you disconnect, take the following steps:

  1. Connect to your office PC.

  2. From the menu strip at the top of the remote connection screen, click the ⚙️ Settings icon, then click Additional Settings as above in Step 2.

  3. In the window that pops up, click the Session tab and choose either Lock remote desktop or Logout remote user from the On session close: dropdown, then click Close.

Lock remote desktop: This will prevent anyone from accessing your desktop without entering your PIN/password. Your applications/windows will stay open.

Logout remote user: This will prevent anyone from accessing your desktop without entering your PIN/password. Your applications/windows will all be closed.

If you do not select one of the two above options (i.e. you leave it set to No action), then you must manually lock or sign off of your workstation before disconnecting. If you do not, then there will be a window (typically 30 minutes) during which anyone physically present at your workstation can use it under your name.
