Preface/Requirements

When accessing resources from another company, you may be required to enroll in Multi-factor authentication to secure your account. When you are prompted with a notification that looks like this:


You are required to enroll in Multi-factor authentication.


⚠️ MFA configuration should be done from a laptop or desktop. You will also need the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to complete registration. Before proceeding, please download Microsoft authenticator for iOS or Android.


Configuring Multi-factor authentication


Once you start the process of configuring the Microsoft Authenticator App, do not use your browser's "Back" button. If you need to stop configuration for any reason, use the “Back” buttons included as part of the configuration process. 


  1.  Click Next on the More information required notification:


  2.  Click Next on the Microsoft Authenticator page:


  3. (On your phone) In the Microsoft Authenticator App, click the ➕ icon to add new accounts. 

  4. Choose the “Work or School Account” option. If you are promped to "Sign In" or "Scan QR Code", choose Scan QR CodeThis will open your camera with a box highlighted in blue. You will use this to scan your computer screen in Step 6.


  5. Back on your laptop or desktop, click Next on the Set up your account screen.



  6. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen with the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone. After scanning the code, the view of your camera will disappear in the Microsoft Authenticator App. Click Next under the QR code displayed on your computer screen.




  7. A notification will be sent to your phone to confirm that the Microsoft Authenticator App was configured successfully. On your computer, a two digit number will be displayed. Enter the number into your Microsoft Authenticator App and then tap Yes.

  8. When you have approved the notification on your phone and configuration is successful, the page on your computer screen will update to indicate that you approved the notification. Click Next to review your MFA configuration.


  9. Review the information you configured and click Done to complete MFA configuration.
     

You're now enrolled in MFA for your guest account. if you are ever prompted to approve an MFA request, simply enter the two-digit number on the screen into your phone and tap Yes. Never share your two digit authentication code with anyone else.
